JOB SUMMARY:  Machine Operators are responsible for several bakery manufacturing activities. Candidates must be willing and able to work in a fast paced manufacturing environment. Must be able to communicate and work effectively in a team environment. Must be able to follow instructions (written & verbal), safely and accurately operate bakery equipment and maintain GMP standards.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

 

Requires high school diploma, or equivalent.             

 

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, Machine Operator, DOT #: 520.685-010 is a semi-skilled position (3 - 6 months vocational preparation).  The general educational development requirements include the following:                                                                                     

 

Reasoning Skills-   Apply common sense understanding, to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagrammatic form.

 

Mathematical Skills- Add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure.  Perform the four operations with like common and decimal fractions.

 

Language Skills- Passive vocabulary of 5,000 - 6,000 words.  Read at a rate of 190 - 215 words per minute.  Write compound and complex sentences.  Speak clearly and distinctly with appropriate pauses and emphasis, correct pronunciation, variations in word order, using present, perfect, and future tenses.     

 

Prefer previous safety training.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

Ability to stand (20%), walk (70%) and bend (10%) for 12 hours.  Ability to lift approximately up to a maximum of 100 pounds (sack of flour), approximately 144 times per day from ankle to chest.  Ability to reach from 2 ½ feet approximately 540 times per day and up to 6 feet, approximately 72 times per day.  May climb stairs and ladder.  Performs repetitive motions, using the hands/arms approximately 800 times per day and the back (twisting), approximately 720 times per day.  Ability to push/pull upper body 72 times per day and whole body 10 times per day.  Shortening weigh approximately 50 lbs., dry ingredients weighs 100 lbs. and barreled ingredients weigh 400 lbs. (use hoist).  Must be in good physical condition.                                                                                                                              

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, Machine Operator is considered a light physical demand level job, defined as occasional exerting force of 20 pounds, frequently 10 pounds and constantly a negligible.  Due to the maximum lifting of 100 lbs., this position is considered a heavy physical demanding position.    

 

OTHER ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS NOT LISTED ABOVE INCLUDE:

 

Organizational skills, read and follow formulations, calculating batter time and length, ability to record batter and exceptions, compute exceptions, ability to watch two machines and know what stage of mixing each is in, ability to make batter adjustments, add weight together (ounces & pounds).  Ability to identify ingredients in and out of packing containers, hearing, understanding instructions and seeing.

 

MACHINES/TOOLS USED:     

 

Scrapers, box knife, bowl knife, scoops, bucket, thermometer, measuring cup, hair net and hearing protection. Safety glasses and bump caps may also be used.
